Montana Department of Agriculture

The Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) aims to support agriculture throughout the state of Montana. The PSPP is partnering with MDA to help expand their long running groundwater monitoring program, as well as increase container recycling and pesticide disposal events. Check out our event calendar which includes MDA disposal events or visit the MDA website. We at PSPP are excited for the opportunity to work with the MDA and help expand collection projects throughout the basin.
Kootenai Tribe of Idaho

The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho (KTOI) has engaged with PSPP in order to increase sampling along the Kootenai river. KTOI is looking to assess the concentration of pesticides and other toxics in their waters, so if needed actions can be planned and prioritized accordingly. KTOI has a long history of living along the Kootenai River and has seen many changes, but they have never faltered on their mission of protecting the land. We are excited to be partnering with KTOI to measure the impact on the Kootenai and implement projects to make a lasting impact on the health of the land.
MSU Extension Pesticide Education Program

Montana State University Extension will be engaging with the PSPP under two different programs. Dr. Cecil Tharp will work with the Pesticide Education Program to provide educational resources and perform surveys to better understand pesticide use throughout the basin. Through watershed tours we plan on reaching hundreds of applicators to inform them of best management and spraying practices.
Montana Watershed Coordination Council

The Montana Watershed Coordination Council (MWCC) has been serving the watersheds and landscapes of Montana for over 30 years, with a mission to bring connect and support community-based conservation networks to promote healthy and productive watersheds. MWCC’s goals within the partnership is to help coordinate with watershed groups and organizations to carryout outreach, education and monitoring efforts in order to understand pesticide pollution and its effects.
Montana Department of Environmental Quality

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is partnering with the PSPP to aid in the development and distribution of education and outreach materials about pesticide best practices and promoting alternative pest management methods such as lawn alternatives and native plants. Additionally, DEQ is working with other partners to host workshops and trainings that include discussion of water quality, pesticide use, and requirements of the MPDES pesticide general permit issued by DEQ for pesticides discharged in water. The PSPP team is very excited about this partnership and the meaningful contributions from DEQ staff.
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) will also be engaging with the Montana Pesticide Stewardship Partnership Program. Having been stewards of this land since time immemorial CSKT has a wealth of knowledge of how the environment has changed throughout the years. We are extremely excited to be working with CSKT and continuing the long partnership that CSKT and Flathead Lake Biological Station have had to protect the waters of the flathead and beyond. CSKT will be conducting monitoring throughout the Mission Valley including fish tissue samples to determine the health hazard of contaminates in the water.
MSU Extension Water Quality

Montana State University Extension will be engaging with the PSPP under two different programs. Dr. Adam Sigler will work with a graduate student to engage irrigators in field-based research to understand risk of pesticide transportation along surface water and groundwater.
City of Missoula

The City of Missoula is engaging with the PSPP in order to improve green infrastructure and stormwater treatment throughout the city. Currently storm water in the city of Missoula is either routed into waterways or pumped into groundwater. By building ways to encourage natural processes to capture and filter the storm water the City of Missoula hopes to make a lasting impact to the health of their watershed and drinking water for the valley,
