Data and Donuts: Summer Seminar Series

The 2018 Data and Donuts Summer Seminar series is offered every summer during the first four weeks of the FLBS Summer Session. The series offers students and the public a chance hear speakers across a wide variety of ecological topics. Speakers and topics will be announced as soon as they become available.


June 25th, Monday, 10-11 AM, at FLBS

Cody Youngbull, Research Professor, Flathead Lake Biological Station. Lecture: “Protecting our waters using novel technologies for invasive species detection.”

July 2nd, Monday, 10-11 AM, at FLBS

Germaine White, Education Specialist, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Lecture Topic: Success stories and tribal perspectives on natural resource management.

July 9th, Monday, 10-11 AM, at FLBS

Tabitha Graves, Terrestrial Research Ecologist, United States Geological Survey – Glacier Field Station. Lecture: “Bears, Berries, and Conservation Biology.”

July 16th, Monday, 10-11 AM, at FLBS

Erin Hotchkiss, Assistant Professor, Virginia Tech University. Lecture Topic: Aquatic ecology, water quality, and food webs.

FLBS Research Cruise

The annual FLBS Flathead Lake Research Cruise offers participants an afternoon learning about current ecological and water quality research, accompanied by appetizers, beverages and live music.

When:  Tuesday, July 10, 3:30-6pm
Where: the Far West out of Lakeside, MT

The Bio Station open house features something for everyone in the family:

  • Demonstration boat trips
  • Interactive science demonstrations for the kids
