Research Interests
I am interested in eliciting the tradeoffs individuals are willing to make to protect their environment from the myriad of threats that can degrade it. I've applied my training as an economist to estimate the public's willingness to pay to protect water and air quality, the amenity value of Flathead & Whitefish Lakes, the potential economic impact of zebra mussel establishment in Montana's waters, and the potential health benefits from the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes lake trout suppression program. My most recent research is focused on the degradation of the near shore environment in Flathead & Whitefish Lakes from septic leachate and how we might employ data to engage homeowners to adopt septic system best management practices.
