John is a research associate working as a part of the Church Lab at Flathead Lake Biological Station. In the past he has been a part of numerous ecological and wildlife biology teams such as UCR's The Guppy Project and Padre Island Nat'l Seashore's Sea Turtle Science and Recovery Project. He completed his bachelor's degree in molecular biology at Colgate University, and wrote a thesis focused on acid deposition in the Adirondack Mountains State Park. John brings this history of aquatic ecology field and lab skills to the station to study the microbial community in the Flathead Valley's lakes. Using a suite of genetic tools and analyses, John is looking at seasonal and annual changes in the microbial communities and their functional genes, specifically pertaining to nutrient cycling.
